babylistspreview Baby Lists Book ReviewWhen you first tell friends and family you’re expecting your first child you’ll get thrown more advice than you know what to do with. It can be very overwhelming discerned between what will really help you and what is just an Old Wives Tale. So the next thing you do is run to your local bookstore and start buying up copies of anything pregnancy and baby related like I did, and of course read them all that very same week. If you’re on your second or third, or even fourth child, they are all probably on shelf collecting dust now.
If I wrote a book about being a mother it would be called, “Three Kids later and I’m still Unprepared.” Why? Because most books don’t really offer you more than the physical symptoms of pregnancy and the emotions involving it.
I’m three kids into motherhood and really thought there wouldn’t ever be another “mommy book” I would ever need until I received a copy of “Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby”, by Elaine Farber. Let me tell you, I’m a list person. I have one for grocery shopping, running errands, daily routine, but what I was missing was few for preparing for little Emma’s arrival.
For weeks I’ve been wrapped up in the emotions of feeling unprepared. I couldn’t remember what I needed to buy for a newborn, what I would need for breastfeeding her, or what to pack in my hospital bag.
As I started browsing the chapters of Baby Lists, it all started coming back to me. Each list reminded me of things I had forgotten and introduced me to new products I didn’t know existed. One of my to-do lists that I had been procrastinating on was Chapter 2. Creating a Birth Plan. In previous pregnancies, this was something I never did because a) I forgot and b) I didn’t know how or what I wanted. This chapter really goes into detail on the options you’ll face when it comes to delivering your child. The list breaks down into stages of labor and offers several options on you how may or may not want to be medically treated.
While I wish I could share the entire book of lists with you, I do want to tell you about some great ones included in the book:
* Finding an Interview a Pediatrician
* Childproofing Your Home
* Newborn Necessities
* Bath-Time Essentials
* Products for Nursing Mothers
If all 25 chapters of lists don’t answer all of your questions, there’s even a great section of Pregnancy, Parenting, DVD, and Music resources provided right in the back of the book.
What I really love most about this book and what makes it truly different is that each list allows you to fill in your answers or check off products as you read along right in the book.
