Baby Lists Book Review- Posted on February 13, 2009
I’m a list maker. I make to do lists, shopping lists, lists of questions to ask doctors, teachers, family members when I call them, and lists of bills to pay. A book of lists? I’m in heaven!
babylistsBaby Lists by Elaine Farber helps to get ready for the arrival of your new baby. There are lists of products to purchase including what to buy for the nursery, bath, nursing moms, feeding, childproofing, skin-care, health-care, travel accessories, toys, books, DVD’s, music, etc. These lists provide information on websites for each product. Most items have a short description and some have a review. They are easy to find in the book as they are listed by chapter.
The other chapters include information on how to chose a hospital, a pediatrician, a nanny and what to pack for the hospital, what emergency phone numbers and information to keep on hand. Included are lists of questions to ask the doctor, the hospital, and yourself about your own birthing plan. Everything is covered. This book is perfect for first time expectant moms and for other new mothers too, especially since there are so many new products on the market.
Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby was included in baskets given to celebrities such as Nancy Grace, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Campbell Brown.
The author, Elaine Farber is a mother of three and a childcare professional of more than 25 years. She worked in hospitals, as a consultant to expectant parents, and a nanny with many families of multiples.
You can see excerpts of the book, ask Ms. Farber questions and read other reviews on the book’s website.

Yeah I like to write lists. Though I wrote a list of all the baby stuff I would ‘need’ in reality though, you dont NEED half the stuff people think you need. I mean, my grandparents didnt have most of the stuff for my parents, as I have for my son. Its not a must, just a want. Sounds like a good book though, I would buy it lol. I look at all the baby stuff and say I NEED THAT!!! lol

Mom Approved:
babylistspreview Baby Lists Book ReviewWhen you first tell friends and family you’re expecting your first child you’ll get thrown more advice than you know what to do with. It can be very overwhelming discerned between what will really help you and what is just an Old Wives Tale. So the next thing you do is run to your local bookstore and start buying up copies of anything pregnancy and baby related like I did, and of course read them all that very same week. If you’re on your second or third, or even fourth child, they are all probably on shelf collecting dust now.
If I wrote a book about being a mother it would be called, “Three Kids later and I’m still Unprepared.” Why? Because most books don’t really offer you more than the physical symptoms of pregnancy and the emotions involving it.
I’m three kids into motherhood and really thought there wouldn’t ever be another “mommy book” I would ever need until I received a copy of “Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby”, by Elaine Farber. Let me tell you, I’m a list person. I have one for grocery shopping, running errands, daily routine, but what I was missing was few for preparing for little Emma’s arrival.
For weeks I’ve been wrapped up in the emotions of feeling unprepared. I couldn’t remember what I needed to buy for a newborn, what I would need for breastfeeding her, or what to pack in my hospital bag.
As I started browsing the chapters of Baby Lists, it all started coming back to me. Each list reminded me of things I had forgotten and introduced me to new products I didn’t know existed. One of my to-do lists that I had been procrastinating on was Chapter 2. Creating a Birth Plan. In previous pregnancies, this was something I never did because a) I forgot and b) I didn’t know how or what I wanted. This chapter really goes into detail on the options you’ll face when it comes to delivering your child. The list breaks down into stages of labor and offers several options on you how may or may not want to be medically treated.
While I wish I could share the entire book of lists with you, I do want to tell you about some great ones included in the book:
* Finding an Interview a Pediatrician
* Childproofing Your Home
* Newborn Necessities
* Bath-Time Essentials
* Products for Nursing Mothers
If all 25 chapters of lists don’t answer all of your questions, there’s even a great section of Pregnancy, Parenting, DVD, and Music resources provided right in the back of the book.
What I really love most about this book and what makes it truly different is that each list allows you to fill in your answers or check off products as you read along right in the book.

Book Review: Baby Lists
Having a baby can be an overwhelming experience. There is much to prepare. If physical and mental preparation are not enough, you’ve also got to ensure you have the products and gear you’ll need when that sweet miracle arrives.
When I was pregnant with my son, I ended up on bedrest with way too much time to research must-have baby products and gear. It was completely overwhelming. So I made and downloaded lists. I remember going online when I was pregnant and printing off every list I could find that told me what I needed for the hospital, the nursery, the diaper bag… My husband asked me how I was going to keep track of all the lists I had printed off. And he was right. I like to make all kinds of lists and then have no idea either where I put them or what to do with them.
If you only get one pregnancy planning book, be sure to pick up Baby Lists by Elaine Farber. With over twenty-five years of experience as a newborn and early parenting coach and consultant, Elaine Farber will get you organized and prepared for that babe on the way. The book is comprehensive without overwhelming expectant moms. Jessica Alba was recently gifted this book.

Baby Lists is divided into three sections: Becoming Baby Ready, Necessities and Nice Things to Have, and Books, Videos, DVDs, and Music. My favorite chapters were those that covered the necessities versus the “niceties.” I was going through some of my son’s clothes, toys, and gear and found brand-new items I never used because I never needed them. I would have really appreciated a resource that gave me direction so that I could shop wisely.
The book has several write-in sections to keep pertinent information in one place. I’ll definitely use this book for baby number two because it has a ton of great product recommendations with links to the manufacturer’s websites.
Baby Lists is available for purchase on Amazon.com. I highly recommend checking out the website for fabulous articles and tips for expectant and new parents.

Just a mom’s take on things… Review- Posted on November 13, 2008 by Deb
Review: Baby Lists
When I was pregnant with our first daughter, I thought I had everything ‘under control’. I read up on what was happening with and inside my body. I knew how she was developing from week to week and month to month. And I read the ‘pregnancy’ and ‘new baby’ guides that I could get a hold of to make sure that we were as prepared as possible.
One thing I realized afterward though, is that many of the books and websites have redundant information that is listed in several different places and you have to wade through a lot of extra text to find what you really need to know in order to prepare and get ready for baby. I’m a ‘list’ type of person, so I tend to look for lists, preferably ones that break things down as simply and easily as possible. That’s why I really like the idea of ‘Baby Lists’.
What it is:
“Baby Lists – What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby” was written by Elaine Farber, a newborn consultant and mother of three who has coached hundreds of families through early parenting. She has worked in hospital nurseries, ran a daycare center and provided consultation to expectant parents, and served as a nanny for families with newborns (90% of whom were multiples) for more than twenty-five years.
The book is a resource full of – lists. Lists for everything that you can think of that has to do with babies and kids. There are suggested questions to ask a potential pediatrician or nanny (complete with fill-in-the-blanks), lists for what to pack in a diaper bag (for various ages of babies), lists of various styles and designs of all kinds of baby gear from swings and jumpers to strollers, nursing pads and safety products. Each item on the lists is described – and many items include specific brand or product recommendations as well, along with a website to check for further information. There are lists of things to look for when choosing a child safety seat, and even lists of other parenting and pregnancy reference books. If you could possibly need or want it for your baby, it’s sure to be on one of these lists!
Here’s my take on it:
Wow, this book is thorough. And chock full of useful advice, information and recommendations in a format that’s easy for a ‘list person’ like me to understand. Need to decide what kind of bottles to use for your baby? Check out Chapter 21 (Feeding Time) for thirteen pages of information (list style, of course) that explores the various types (disposable vs. re-usable), brands (Munchkin, Dr. Browns, Playtex and more), sizes (4 oz, 8 oz) and accessories for all kinds of baby bottles. Unlike many books that give general information and very few specific recommendations, this book tells you what you’re going to see on the store shelves and helps break down the different options so you can make the best choice for you and your baby.
Sprinkled throughout the pages are quotes from moms listing things that were helpful for them or other pieces of real-world advice. I thought those were really helpful and started watching for them as I read through the book. I also really like the color scheme – the blue text with orange accents really makes the lists ‘pop’ and easy to read. All section headers and website addresses listed are shown in orange as well, so they are easy to pick right off of the page.
This is the kind of book that changes over time – as baby products, advice and recommendations change. Even so, much of the items listed are timeless – as new moms will always need to be choosing which hospital (or other option) to give birth at or deciding the best way (disposable or cloth?) to diaper their babies.
The bottom line:
Baby Lists is an invaluable resource for new moms – and one I wish I’d had back when my first baby was born. I can see it being filled out and marked up with prices, items crossed out or circled – it’s a very ‘hands on’ kind of book, packed with lots of essential information and things to think about both before and after baby is born. If you’re expecting – or need a great baby shower idea, this book is definitely worth checking out.
Where can you find it?:
Baby Lists is available in major retail book stores such as Borders, Barnes and Noble, and Books-A-Million – and also online at retailers like Amazon.

Cool Baby Kid Review- November 11, 2008
Not to be confused with Ferber– a moment of quiet reverence for the man who helped both of my children to sleep through the night– Elaine Farber’s book, Baby Lists, is another must-have in the “preparing for baby” book department. Actually, I think both Ferber and Farber’s books will be the ones I’ll give to expecting friends or family members from now on. Baby Lists is the only “what to do and what to get” resource you’ll need to prepare for the new addition. From buying and packing a diaper bag to travelling accessories and safety products, it’s not only comprehensive but easy to read. Forgoing lengthy chapters and long articles, the book is presented in short paragraphs and lists as a reference for when you need it. Highlight your favorites and take it to register; Baby Lists does everything but put the kids to bed for you!

Baby Lists, What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby
Elaine Farber
Ok, I have to admit it: When I picked up this book I thought I knew every baby item and gadget and, well, most of the important stuff you need for a new baby. I have three children of my own, so I thought that fact alone qualified me as an expert. Now I have to confess that I couldn’t put this book down. As I read “Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby,” I began to wish that I had bought this book during my first pregnancy as it would have saved a lot of Internet time and money! It’s not your typical “list” book by any means, it is actually a great read. If you like to be prepared for anything, then having a child is something that is worth your time and preparation. This book is the ultimate guide for, as the title reads, what to do and what to get to prepare for baby.
Some of my favorite features of this book include:
- A list of recommended products’ Web sites or where to buy them.
- A focus on separating what you NEED from what you may “want.”
- An excellent index that makes finding specific needs very fast (a real perk for new moms!).
- Her list of recommended pregnancy books include my favorite book from Dr. Sears
I think the “questionnaires” in the book are a vital and much appreciated short cut and a great resource for a mom who’s really not sure just what to ask her prospective pediatrician. It also includes the right questions to ask during a nanny/babysitter interview.
If you’re not sure what type of bottle, diaper, high chair, or diaper bay you want to use, just read over these sections where all the types are discussed and you’ll soon feel reassured that you can make an informed decision. If you’ve never heard of an “ExerSaucer” or a “Bjorn,” then you NEED this resource! Don’t forget to read over the music-selections section! Elaine Farber, the genius behind my new favorite book, brings over 25 years of experience in working with new families, families of multiples, day-care centers, nurseries and one-on-one consultations. You can feel her passion and her need to help new families with the most wonderful and rewarding experience — welcoming a new baby. You can purchase this book here

Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby:
The amount of baby gear on the market is overwhelming. It’s hard to distinguish the “must-haves” from the “nice-to-haves” when you’re browsing your favorite baby website or standing in the aisles of Babies R Us. Baby Lists: What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby, a consumer’s guide for expectant parents, provides practical advice on what to buy, why and how much of everything you’ll need.
Baby Lists has practical lists of what to register for, how many onesies and burp cloths to buy, what to pack for the hospital, what questions to ask your prospective pediatrician, what questions to ask babysitters and nannies, and more. Author and baby nurse, Elaine Farber, gives expert advice on how to pick a stroller, bouncy seat, swing, high chair, breast-pump, potty, toys, bath, and much more. Her product suggestions and reviews help narrow down the options and take some of the guesswork out of buying expensive baby gear.
If you’re feeling anxious about what to buy and how to prepare your nursery for baby, you’ll find this book indispensable.

Baby Lists – What to Do and What to Get to Prepare for Baby by Elaine Farber
This book is the newest member of the Baby Swags product family. If this book had been around when I was first pregnant, I would have had everything I needed to have. From the moment you find out you are expecting you should hurry and get this book. From choosing the hospital to what toys are best for your one year old, this book goes through every category and pin points everything that is needed to get you to the next stage of your pregnancy journey on through your child’s first year. It is the best all around shopping guide for any new mom to be. I have to say, that this book is a must have for any pregnant woman. If you are on your third pregnancy, it can be used as a refresher course because as you know, with each pregnancy you loose a few brain cells and well, quite frankly, you do forget some things along the way.
